Welcome to my Build Your Own Homeschool Library series where I'm sharing with my readers some of my favorite books from my homeschool shelf. Please note that all the posts in this series contain my own opinions, and I have not been compensated by any publishing company for any of the content.
Overview
If teaching geography intimidates you, this book is for you. The Ultimate Geography and Timeline Guide gets down to the nitty-gritty of what it means to teach geography, and it's not just learning the names and locations of countries around the world.
This book is a complete geography curriculum including innovative lesson plan, reproducible maps, timeline figures, and more. Additionally, an entire section is dedicated to showing you how to integrate geography across the curriculum. This book is all you'd need to help you teach geography from kindergarten through 12th grade.
The newest edition of the book (which has a different cover than my book that is pictured above) even has a CD-ROM that includes reproducible maps, timelines, and student workbook pages.
How we use the books
The first thing I did when I purchased this book was to sit down and read through the first unit which is basically a how-to for the teacher. I found the information extremely useful and I gained a lot of confidence in my ability to teach my children geography without relying on a graded curriculum. Since then I've used several lesson plans from the book and have referred to it frequently throughout the last few years. I plan to use it on a regular basis this upcoming school year.
Where to find the Ultimate Geography and Time Line Guide?
While you can purchase the book new from Christian Book Distributors, you can find a number of used copies for much less elsewhere. Try searching on AddAll.com for the best deal on a used copy.
