How I tell my kids I love them

I Love You Hearts

There are many ways to tell your kids you love them.

Joely and I sing to each other a lot. Sometimes we sing "I love you, a bushel and a peck…," which my grandmother used to sing to me all the time. But our favorite song to sing is "You Are My Sunshine." We often sing it to each other by singing only part of a line, and then having the other one finish the line. We sometimes even alternate every other word.

No matter how we sing it to each other, there isn't a day that goes by that we're not telling each other how much we love each other through this song. It's been something special that just Joely and I share. I tell Jaden and Jerah I love them every day, too, but we've never developed a song that's just for us, although I have been known to sing "You Are My Sunshine" and "A Bushel and a Peck" to them on occasion, too.

Joely wanted to sing "You Are My Sunshine" for all of you, so you can learn it (if you don't already know it) and sing it to your kids, too. We apologize for the "stuffy" sound, but Joely's currently suffering from a mild cold.

There are never enough ways to tell your kids you love them. They need to hear it everyday.

I love both of those songs. What a sweet memory you are making for them.

How sweet! Our oldest daughter and I do this too. It started when she was just a baby. When she would cry in the middle of the night as a baby, I would walk into her room and say, "What's wrong little girl?" And as soon as she heard my voice, the crying stopped and a smile would spread across her face and I would sing this song to her. I started calling her my little sunshine and it stuck. To this day (and she's 15) I still call her that and she still gives me that beautiful smile. What more could a mother want (especially from a teenager).

How cute is that! This is mine and my son's "song" from when he was little. At 7, he's just a little too cool for it now!
