Reading List for Homeschool Moms

Thanks for all the suggestions for this reading list for homeschool moms.

A couple days ago I asked you to suggest some books I can read this summer related to homeschooling, education, or parenting. You gave me some great suggestions, most of which I hadn't heard of before. I'm really looking forward to reading some of these.

Learning All The Time (recommended by AmyK of Multimedia Homeschool)

Here are my own recommendations. I've already read a few of the books in the list above, but I'll add these three to the list since I've also found them very helpful.

You Can Teach Your Child Successfully: Grades 4-8 by Dr. Ruth Beechick

The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling by Debra Bell

Home Learning Year by Year: How to Design a Homeschool Curriculum from Preschool Through High School by Rebecca Rupp

Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think of them? Do you have any more suggestions?

We are reading Boyhood and Beyond with our boys right now for "Bible". We LOVE it! I read and we discuss. My boys are 9,7,5 though…

I read For Parents Only. It should be called: For Parents of Teens only. The research was not limited to Christian families, so a lot of it won't be relative. Having really enjoyed For Men Only & For Women Only, I was pretty disappointed in this book.

(that should say: a lot of it won't be relevant.)

Personally, ANY books on homeschooling written by Rebecca Rupp are excellent. I use the Home Schooling Year By Year in my own homeschool program. Her resource recommendations are thoroughly researched and trustworthy.

I also really like the giant, phone-book-thich catalog put out by Rainbow Resource Center each year. Their staff does a thorough product review and description of every single item they sell, hence the reason the catalog is so thick!

Seasons of a Mother's Heart, also by Sally Clarkson

It is perhaps the most encouraging homeschooling book I have EVER read…AND makes me aspire to a loving family life, in general.

    Lovely, lovely, lovely.

What a comprehensive and inspiring list. I would add two titles: _A Charlotte Mason Education_ and _More Charlotte Mason Education_, both by Catherine Levison. These books, combined with TWTM, have had a great impact on how we approach education in our home.

I've read Creative Correction, When You Rise Up, Shepherding a Child's Heart, Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning, Bringing Up Boys, For the Children's Sake, The Well-Trained Mind, and Teach Them Diligently. My favorites are Shepherding a Child's Heart and the Well-Trained Mind.
