I have very fond memories of snuggling up next to a cassette player as a child, reading along in the book while the narrator told the story of The Wild Swans by Hans Christian Andersen. I don't know exactly why some stories stand out more in my mind than others, but The Wild Swans most definitely does for me. It's such a beautiful story about brotherly love and perseverance through injustice.
I was at the library the other day and found the exact same edition of The Wild Swans that I listened to as a child. I checked it out and Joely has been listening eagerly to it. I love that she enjoys the story as much as I did when I was her age.
What stories do you remember from your childhood that you've made sure to introduce to your own children?
Just So Stories. I loved them as a child and still love them now as I read them to my kids.

The silliness of Seuss of coarse!
The Little Engine That Could!! It is still one of my favorites, and my boys LOVE it, too! My grandparents gave me a beautiful book when I was about 5 yrs, and I always loved it when my grandfather read it so dramatically. I probably read the story a little silly, but my boys just love hearing me be silly. I don't know who enjoys it more… me or them. LOL!
I remember reading "But No Elephants" as a kid.
All of the Little House books. Laura and Mary have become great friends to my children now as they were to me when I was their age.

One of the first books I read was The Big Jump and Other Stories, so I definitely bought it for our kids. I review our favourite books at http://www.sparklingadventures.com/index.php?c=DFF-book-club&s=article so come by and see some of our favourites!
My mom read the book 'The House that Jack Built' to me when I was around 5 or 6 yrs. old. I loved the repitition of the sounds of the words. Unforturnately, I can not find that book anywhere.
The Little House books stand out for me, but also "Cheaper by the Dozen." I laughed my way through that book more than once, and then tried to imagine what life would be like with eleven siblings and parents like the Gilbreths (sp?).

Hey, where ya been? You ok? 🙂
I also thought of Amelia Bedelia books. I loved them as a child and I love it when my kids read them.

@Ginger, I'm still here! Just busy on a redo of my design site and finishing up the last few projects in my queue.
BTW, I LOVE Amelia Bedelia books. I'm extremely punny (to a fault!), so her stories always made me laugh!
