My Girls at the Mic & the Piano

Joely and Jerah have been really motivated to improve their piano skills these last few months. Sadly, I haven't worked with them at all in the last year. I say sadly because as a piano teacher, I'm helping all these other kids learn how to play the piano, but I'm not working with my own kids enough.

Regardless, the girls have picked up a lot just by listening in on my lessons. What they have learned on the piano is because they've sat down and taught themselves (with me occasionally yelling from the other room something like "You missed the A flat!" or "Watch your rhythm!"

This is Jerah singing Phil Wickham's song "Cannons" at our last Fifth Sunday Singing at church. (Sorry, the video starts in the middle because our camera wouldn't focus right.) What's really cool is that Jeff and I got to speak personally with Phil in person last year at one of his concerts in Dallas. Such a genuinely nice โ€” and very talented guy!

Beautiful! It is so neat to see your girls' talent! My son is about the embark on piano lessons with a good friend of mine who is a genius on the keys (luckily because I remember very little from my elementary school lessons!) And the singing- just made me tear up ๐Ÿ™‚

I found your blog via The Happy Housewife, and I'm excited I did. I am going to homeschool my three (well, 2 for now, as my youngest is 3) in the fall. I can't wait to read more.

    Blessings~

My children and I enjoyed your videos!! You would laugh if you knew my children are only 2yo and 1yo. ๐Ÿ™‚
But my daughter (2) asked to watch the Chopsticks video and Jerah's video over and over!!
My son (1) was walking around in his walker, and stood in silence, mouth gaping wide, as he listened to Chopsticks. Then he walked over to our piano and reached up and started "playing" the keys. ๐Ÿ™‚ Someday . . . .
My husband attended a magnet high school with an emphasis in performing arts, where he studied voice, and he minored in music in college. I taught piano (before kids) so we both look forward to the day when ours are old enough to play instruments and sing!
Thanks for sharing! They sing and play so well!
