A Kid-Friendly Kitchen Cabinet

Garage sales can help with kitchen cabinet problems for kids as you can see from my own experience.

PROBLEM:

  1. My kids were too short.
  2. My kitchen cabinets were too tall.
  3. And I was too lazy got tired of getting the dishes down for my kids all the time.

SOLUTION:

When I happened upon this two-door cabinet for $15 at a garage sale, I snatched it up and moved it into the kitchen.

Then I filled it with kid-safe plates, bowls, glasses, utensils, crackers, snack items, peanut butter, syrup, honey, and breakfast cereal.

Now the kids don't have to bug me politely ask me to get the dishes down from the kitchen cabinets for them. Everything they need is now completely accessible to them—and we're talking both for getting the dishes out and putting clean dishes away! They should have kitchen cabinets for kids in all family homes.

What a clever idea! I'll have to keep that in mind when I have kids.

Great idea! I wish I had room for that in my kitchen! Thankfully my oldest is just about as tall as me so he is a big help for getting things for the little ones. I also have a 2 step-step ladder handy for them to use as well.

    Thanks for sharing!

Seriously love this idea. I put some plastic throw-away cups into a lower cabinet for my kids and that made the biggest difference. I can imagine how wonderful this solution is in your kitchen! Thanks for sharing!

I took a lower cupboard for this. The kids liked it too b/c they could do it themselves.

That is a great idea!! I can't wait for my son to be old enough to utilize something like that and not just destroy it. LOL!!!

What a great idea! My daughter is not yet two and is still a little young for this, but I will definitely keep it in mind for the future. Thanks for the idea!

I LOVE those IKEA cups, they clean up great! Thanks for this…I've been putting it off for too long, because my two year old would just empty that cabinet hourly if I don't watch her. But I need to do some more training in this area, thanks for the reminder!

I did this just about a month ago. It's worked out perfect. Now my 4 yo's help unload the dishes too.
