Our kids are learning to cook as a life skill.
Jaden cooked dinner again tonight. He was supposed to cook last Saturday, but our little stove misadventure prevented it.
But now that the stove has been returned to full working order, we can get back into the routine of the kids cooking on Saturday nights.
Jaden decided to cook tacos, one of his favorite meals. He got to use the food chopper to chop the onions, something he hasn't been allowed to do before. Unfortunatly, it didn't lessen the annoyance of the onion fumes (is that the right word?), and he complained that his eyes hurt the entire time he worked on the onions.
We also tried something else a little different; when we make tacos, we usually buy a packet of taco seasoning, but this time we made the taco seasoning ourselves. This is the recipe we used:
HOMEMADE TACO SEASONING MIX (for 1 pound beef/chicken)
- 1 T chili powder
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp ground oregano
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
