Introducing…The Miller Band

Our own home grown Miller Band for your enjoyment.

Jaden's been playing guitar for over a year now, but he's only been taking "real" guitar lessons for the last 6 weeks or so. He's always been afraid to play guitar in public. But since he got his new guitar for his birthday last month (to replace the cheap First Act guitar he had been learning on), his attitude about public performance has changed.

So below you'll find a video of Jaden's very first public performance playing guitar. That's me on the piano, Jeff on drums, and Jerah and Joely singing the (somewhat offkey) vocals. This is the first time that we've ever performed as a whole family, with all five of us participating (and yes, I felt a little von Trapp-ish!).

The audience was a small gathering of people at church, but it was most definitely a public venue, and I'm so excited that Jaden was so willing to perform! Hopefully this is the first of many such occasions for the Miller Band in the future.

Cute! That is so cool that the five of you are musically talented. I am envious.

@Rita, Well, since I'm a pianist, and Jeff is a minister of music, the kids are pretty much doomed to be musical as well. They've been around music since before they were born, so it's almost a given that they'd at least have a little bit of musical talent. 🙂

    Joy,

Question….my son has been wanting to play the guitar, we got him one of those "first act guitars" that you mentioned. I noticed that you said Jaden has been playing for about a year but only started lessons 6 weeks ago….what was he doing up until he started the lessons? Just trying to get my son (Tucker) going but not sure where to start. Thanks so much, Lisa

PS – I love your Miller Band – what a blessing!

@Lisa, My husband, who taught himself how to play guitar about 6 years ago, was kind of showing him a thing or two on the guitar. He could play a few chords before he started lessons, but lacked confidence and didn't know how to read music or play individual notes on the guitar. We finally started guitar lessons with a phenomenal teach in our area, and it has done Jaden a world of good having a great teacher. But it was a huge help that Jaden was already a bit familiar with the guitar before starting lessons.

There are some great DVD's out there to get a start with guitar. That might be a good place to start before investing in lessons.

I'm so sorry I missed the live performance but I'm so glad you posted the video! You and Jeff have to be bursting with pride! I'm sure God is smiling down over your family.

I love it! Your son is doing really well on the guitar for only 6 weeks of lessons.
