Learning Lessons from History (The Myth of Utopia)

Nations that refuse to study and learn from history are doomed to repeat it. This sad fact is illustrated succinctly and with humor through this YouTube video from 1948 my dad sent me.

I'm shocked — although less and less so every day — at how many people today are freely signing their freedom away for the empty promise of utopia.

If you are reading this through a feed reader or via email, you may need to click through to view the video. The video is over 9 minutes long, but it's well-worth watching.

It's because children aren't taught what socialism has caused in the past that they are so willing to accept it now. A public-schooled child, being quizzed by her mother for her upcoming history test, answered: What is socialism? this way: "The fair distribution of wealth for all people." Terrible. Stealing from those who have worked hard and giving to those who haven't is not fair distribution.
If we study history, we can easily and quickly see that socialism is no solution.

Thank you for the post. It's hard to believe this was from the 1940's, it is so appropriate for the times we live in today!
