Charlie & Noel: An Advent Calendar Story

Charlie & Noel: An Advent Calendar Story, just $.99 today!

Author Franziska Macur has graciously agreed to give away a Kindle or PDF copy of Charlie & Noel: An Advent Calendar Story to three Five J's readers.

Charlie & Noel is a very creative way to help families discuss the real meaning of Christmas. In the story, you will get to know Charlie, a little boy who wishes he could just skip the whole waiting part and jump right into the presents. But Charlie doesn’t realize what he would miss or just how many magical moments the season has waiting for him.

The book has 25-chapters—one for each day of advent—and is a great read aloud for families with children ages 4-10. Each chapter is followed by discussion questions and related activities.

My favorite Christmas tradition is that my parents come over every year to watch the kids open their gifts and my dad cooks breakfast for everyone. Just to see the joy in his face when he is cooking for us is great.

We have a few favorite Christmas traditions. It is hard to pick just one. But, we do like to leave cookies and milk out for Santa. We then decide if the reindeer should get carrots or sugar that year.

We enjoy baking a cake to celebrate Jesus' birthday. Coffee cakes seem to be less sweet so early in the morning. ;O)

Our favorite Christmas tradition is going to a Christmas Eve service at a local church. We go to different ones to see how different churches celebrate. Usually it is full of music, candles, smells of Christmas and most of them read one of the gospel accounts of Jesus' birth. Sometimes the account is acted out with real animals and actors. It is always a joyful celebration!

I LOVE that my husband starts a fire in the fireplace every Christmas morning and reads the Christmas story to our family, all of us in our PJ's. I LOVE the my MIL made me a tree skirt when I was first married and I have it under my tree every year. I LOVE that my Grandma made me a Christmas quilt many years ago and now that she is gone it is even more special to me and I get it out to use every winter and sometimes it stays out in the summer too. My aunt made me a winter wreath the i LOVE to hand on my front door and remember her every time I see it. Those are just a few things I love about our Christmas traditions.

My favorite Christmas tradition is decorating a gingerbread house on Christmas Day. I love that my children look forward to an activity more than presents.

Last year we picked out and chopped down our tree for the first time. All the kids really loved this. I think it may be a new tradition. Oh, and after the new year we planted it in our back yard. It is still going strong.
