WFMW: How I'm Saving $265 on Camping Gear for my Scout

denali

Jaden joined Boy Scouts a couple months ago, and although I love that he's enjoying Scouting, it's an activity that can cost a lot of money over time.

We didn't start camping until just last month, so we don't have much camping equipment, and what we have isn't appropriate for backpacking. So if Jaden is going to be going on any campouts with his troop (which he obviously is), he has to get some equipment, namely a backpacking tent, a frame backpack, and a self-inflating sleeping pad. After looking around on the internet for a little bit I was a little anxious about how much all of that would cost. Jaden's not too big yet, so I really wanted to make sure his equipment was light enough for him to carry, but I quickly discovered that you pay for that lightness! Yowsers!

But thankfully his Scoutmaster told me about the site where he purchases all his scouting supplies, Scout Direct. I'm so glad he told me about this place because I'm going to be able to buy $405 worth of camping equipment (tent, backpack, and camping pad) for just $140! I love a deal, and you gotta admit, that's a deal. Saving 65% isn't too shabby, and it definitely works for me.

This whole Scouting thing may not end up bankrupting us after all!

Good to know, Joy! My hubby was a scout and he talks about our son joining up next year but I was afraid of all the costs.
