Welcome To Our Bloggy Progressive Dinner

Merry Christmas, and welcome to the first stop of our Bloggy Progressive Dinner! I will be serving a holiday beverage today. But it's not the traditional eggnog, because I've never really cared for eggnog myself. Instead I've chosen a drink that will satisfy the sweet tooth of all the chocoholics among us — Creamy White Hot Chocolate.

This was my first attempt at this recipe, but I was very happy with the result. The recipe makes about 32 oz., and the hot chocolate is so rich, 5-6 ozs. is probably enough per serving. So you can expect the recipe to serve five or six people.

Creamy White Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 3 cups half-and-half (divided)
  • 2/3 to 1 cup white chocolate (vanilla) baking chips (I used 1 cup in my recipe)
  • 1 cinnamon stick (about 3 inches)
  • 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • ground cinnamon (optional as a garnish)

Directions

1. Put 1/4 cup of the half-and-half, the chips, cinnamon stick, and nutmeg in a sauce pan over low heat.

2. Stir over low heat until the chips are completely melted.

3. Remove the cinnamon stick and discard. Add the remainder of the half-and-half.

4. Stir and heat through completely.

5. Once it's completely heated through, remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour into mugs. Sprinkle with cinnamon if desired. Serve and enjoy!

The Giveaway

At each stop of this Bloggy Progressive Dinner, we'll be hosting a giveaway. All you need to do to enter the drawing for each gift is to leave a comment on that particular giveaway post. There will be a different giveaway each night of the Progressive Dinner, so make sure you don't miss a night! This particular giveaway will end Sunday, December 21, at midnight EST.

Tonight's giveaway is a packet of mint cocoa in a handmade gift bag. The cocoa also comes with this cute poem, so it would make a great gift or stocking stuffer for Christmas!

Here's a cup of cocoa
To drink up as you may,
To help you take the chill off
These frosty winter days.
It comes with warmest wishes
For a Christmas filled with cheer
And Memories that sparkle
Throughout the coming year

Make sure you leave a comment to be entered in the giveaway!

I made punch this year for 2 Christmas parties. First I froze cranberry juice in ice cube trays, so that the punch would stay cold with ice, but so that it wouldn't be diluted. When it came time to make the punch I poured in a bottle of cranberry juice and a bottle of 7-up. It was easy and delicious, and a tad bit nutritious as well.

Thanks so much for this recipe! All three of my children are allergic to chocolate (yeah -too bad!) We're going to have to try this…as soon as the commissary carries white chips again…which maybe a while…

Oh, I don't know what I'd do if I were allergic to chocolate! I think I'm so addicted, I'd probably go into withdrawal or something. Hope you like the recipe!
