I teach piano lessons Monday through Friday, usually between 3:30 and 6PM each day. Sometimes students are dropped off by themselves and then picked up at the end of their lessons. But at other times the parents, and sometimes siblings as well, hang out in the living room while I'm teaching the lesson in the music room. The kids usually enjoy this a lot and spend the lesson time talking to the mom or the kids. As a homeschooling mom, I'm especially grateful for the time since it provides my kids with more opportunities for social interaction, with both kids and adults.
One of the moms who stays during her daughter's piano lessons does face painting, so she asked a couple weeks ago if she could bring her paints to paint my kids' faces during the lesson. Well, who am I to stand in the way of good art? Of course, I said yes!
So yesterday she brought her paints — professional paints, I might add — and although my oldest two kids weren't available, by youngest was, so Joely had her face painted during my lesson. After my lessons were finished for the day, we had to go into town for a meeting and to do a little shopping, so Joely's painted face got quite a few stares and comments while we were out — all good thankfully. When people asked where she'd gotten her face painted, I just (jokingly) told them that I always paint her face when we go out in public because if she were to ever get lost, the paint would make it easier to identify her in a crowd.
And then, after they gave me a strange look, I told them the truth.

Hey…anyone I know? We're doing a race next year and I've been wondering where to find a face-painter for the racers kids….
