Well, the display boards are finished—and three whole days ahead of time, too!

Yesterday I expressed concern over the "Swiss Cheesiness" I expected to find in Jerah's report, but when Jerah and I went over her report this morning, I was pleasantly surprised to find more thoroughness than anticipated. It's not perfect, or course (this is the first real research-type project she's done), but it does reveal some great potential!

Jaden's report, while not lacking in length, was missing a lot of detail. (I really think inattention to detail must be an inherent aspect of the male gender!) He did a lot of research, but he's not yet gotten the hang of pulling all those details into one cohesive whole. We'll be working on that to be sure.
Jaden did impress me, however, with the speed with which he prepared his display board. I worked with Jerah first, showing her how to glue her text to the colored paper, then how to cut it out with the paper cutter, and Jaden obviously paid attention, because he got right to work on his display board once his text was printed out. It took Jerah about an hour to complete her board; it took Jaden about 15 minutes.
I'm really looking forward to the History Fair this coming Tuesday. I'll be taking my camera and snapping pictures of everyone else's projects for ideas on presentation (for future fairs, of course), as I am personally lacking in a lot of experience in this area. We have about 25 homeschoolers participating in the History Fair (the first History Fair our homeschool association has had so far). It should make for an interesting and entertaining evening. I'll try to post some pictures of the other projects after the Fair.

Those look great! My sons would love Jaden's, we studied George Stephenson this summer. (They're absolute train fanatics!) Good luck at the History Fair. It sounds fun.
By the way, I'm enjoying your blog so far. I'm also the homeschool mom of 3 and I teach cello!
