Positive Post Tuesday: Working Together

Siblings don't always get along together. In fact, sibling rivalry is one of the most frustrating realities of parenthood. If you have kids, you know what I mean. But this last week I observed my two girls work together, without fighting, for a common goal — putting up and decorating the Christmas tree.

We don't use a real Christmas tree at our house, just an artificial tree we've had for years and store in the attic between Christmases. Last week Jeff and I got the tree down from the dusty attic, as well as all the boxes of decorations, and my two girls, ages 6 and 9, took it from there.

Without any help from us at all, and only a tiny bit of help from their 11-year-old brother, the girls put up the Christmas tree by themselves, added the strings of lights and garland, and put every single one of the ornaments on the tree. And I don't remember them arguing at all during the entire process. It really show you what working toward a common goal can do for you. It was music to my ears.
