There are officially no more grades at the Miller Homeschool…at least for this school year.
Since we started school this August, I've been recording Jaden and Jerah's grades in my HomeschoolTracker program—but recording grades has become such a chore lately!
I usually don't sit down to do the grading until the end of the week, and by then all of Jaden and Jerah's completed work is stacked a mile high in their homework tray. Between the two of them, they have more than 120 assignments on their Daily Task List each week , and although most of the assignments do not require any writing, to record their grades I still have to mark off all 120 assignments individually in HomeschoolTracker.
Don't get me wrong—I love using HomeschoolTracker for lesson planning, and especially the Daily Task Lists that I can print for each child; but sitting down for over an hour each weekend poring over each assignment, grading it, and then entering the grade into the computer, has become too much for me to keep up with. I absolutely dread the weekend because of it!
So, as head teacher, I've made a command decision to stop recording grades—effective immediately. It's taken me a while, but I finally realize that since a record of grades at this point in our homeschooling career is not necessary, spending so much time on recording grades that won't be seen by anyone but Jeff and me is such a waste of time.
Therefore I'm not going to do it!
I consider this an act of self-preservation and a boon for my sanity. Now all I have to do on the weekend is simply look over their papers (without a red pencil in hand), discuss the mistakes with each child, and then print out a Task List for the following week.
Why didn't I think of this before? Oh, sweet freedom!

Just wait until I get there and I will gladly help on the routine work of adding your grades. I understand that recording them is not as necessary as the grading part. I hope the kids are doing well on their homework and not just filling out the assignments to get them done. You are a marvel at teaching them. I never could have done it as well as you, are but then again you are a lifetime learner and are teaching your kids to be that also. GOOD JOB! You get an A+.
