Have you heard of the Bible Bee? I hadn't until yesterday, but it looks really interesting. According to the Bible Bee website, this will be the first-of-its-kind, world-class National Bible Bee Competition. The competition will begin with local contests in communities nationwide on September 12, 2009, and then the top 100 finalists from each age group will advance to the National Contest in Washington D.C. to compete on November 5-6, 2009. The purpose of the Bible Bee is to promote godly character in children and youth by motivating them to memorize passages and facts found in the Bible. Their ultimate goal is to equip the next generation to be bold ambassadors for Jesus Christ.
Contestants will compete in their own age categories: 7-10yo, 11-14yo, and 15-18yo. The materials for study will be available to download in May from the Bible Bee website (for enrolled contestants).
And get this! The cash awards for the winners of this national competition are incredible. The top prize is $100,000 for the 1st place winner in the 15-18yo category. You can see the entire award breakdown here.
This looks like an excellent way for homeschoolers to incorporate Bible into their curriculum.
You can also find free "Heroes of the Faith" family devotionals for download on the Bible Bee site here.

@Karen, Congratulations! My daughter wanted to participate in the competition, but the study materials were a little too daunting to me. How much of the material was your son able to memorize? I can't imagine memorizing everything in that short amount of time.
