Joely in The Color Purple

Joely's been learning to facepaint. Obviously inspired by her past experiences with being the face paintee, she's decided she wants to be the face painter.

So she's been spending a lot of time on YouTube watching facepainting tutorials like this one, and she even spent her own money to buy a set of face paints for herself. But unfortunately, her siblings aren't always willing to have their faces painted. So today I suggested Joely paint her own face for practice.

And so she did. She started off with an orange tiger, then she washed her face and painted a red Spiderman. Then she washed again and tried painting a purple dog. When she tried to wash off the paint from the dog face, she discovered that the purple paint behaves a little differently from the other paints. It stains her skin, leaving her normally beautiful complexion with a sickly purple tint.

Luckily a long shower, a generous amount of Cetaphil, a sturdy washcloth, and a substantial amount of elbow grease managed to rid her skin of the horrible hue. Now she's back to her normal self, rosy cheeks and all. (And Joely has decreed that she will never be using the purple paint again. Little wonder!)

When my kids were doing clowning in 4-H, they worked with face paint a lot. The clowning instructor had them use cold cream to remove the face paint. It is less harsh then soap everytime they would need to re-paint their face. Just a thought…not sure if it works on a purple hue. We never had that problem.

Life lessons are so fun when lived out! Next time she gets a gander to try again……. just in case it was sort of fluky? A little baking soda to scrub works wonders with a bit of plain old Olive oil. Rub oil over face a couple drops at a time, then dip fingers in baking soda and scrub away. Kinda works like cold cream and the baking soda scrubs without being harsh! So much fun to experiment!

  6. I'm glad that you were able to remove the residual color.

I love when our children show an interest in something and pursue it. The beauty of homeschooling, I just didn't know it had a purple hue.
