Garage Conversion: End of Day Two

Our friend John was not able to work with us today, so Jeff and my dad worked on the garage by themselves (I tried to help, but there wasn't much I could help with). We didn't get a great amount done today, although what we did accomplish took a long time.

Here's what we finished on Day Two:

  1. Air conditioning/heating ducts have been run into the room (we're putting in two registers in the ceiling for heating/cooling)
  2. Some of the attic insulation has been installed
  3. Jeff cut channels for wiring in the ceiling joists so we can lay down plywood for attic storage
  4. The box for the ceiling fan was installed in the ceiling
  5. My dad prepped the opening in the wall where our water heater is located. We'll be putting in a bifold door in the alcove to conceal it, but we've still got to shorten a hollow-core door—not something Jeff or my dad have done before. We cut away some of the sheet rock and put in some wood at the base and sides for the hardware to attach to.
  6. Jeff and my dad installed a new fixture in our dining room; the old fixture will be used in the "storage" side of the garage

Poor Jeff spent the majority of the day in the attic, sweating the entire time! It was pretty warm today, unfortunately, so he had a fan running up there to help alleviate some of the stuffiness.

Monday morning John will be back, and our next tasks will be to install the window and complete the wiring. Of course, I'll post pictures as we progress.
