Football vs. Christianity: is there commonality?

I ran across this interesting list at Real World Martha. I am not a sports fan, and neither is my husband (you could say he is nearly anti-sports), but I thought this list was worth mentioning in light of the recent Super Bowl.

Here's a (slightly adapted) list of the many things football players and Christians (should) have in common:

  1. Both have a playbook (Bible)
  2. Both have to work together as a team
  3. Both are excited about the "game"
  4. Both work out to get and remain strong
  5. Both are dedicated to their team
  6. Both are focused on the goal
  7. Both make mistakes (Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”)
  8. People are watching their every move
  9. Their "game" spills over into every part of their entire life. They have to make every decision with their team goal in mind.
  10. Both have end zones
  11. Each person has their own position (ie. Quarterback/Spiritual Gifts)
  12. Both have a Coach who directs them to be their best
  13. There is a trophy/reward in the end
  14. Both must learn delay of gratification
  15. Sometimes players change teams (denomination) but they are still players (Christians).
  16. Both have a facility to practice/play (church), but they also have to play "away." (the world)
  17. Both have opposition
  18. Both have fumbled, but there was a player who recovered the ball, took it through the red zone (cross), and made the touchdown for them
