Confessions of a 10-year-old Grammar Nerd

My son participates in Bible Drill at church, which involves learning 25 memory verses, ten key passages, and locating any book of the Bible in ten seconds. He competed in our church competition last night, and although he was not as prepared as he should have been, he did very well, advancing to the next round.

Following the competition several church members approached Jaden, congratulated him and said, "You did good, Jaden." Jaden visibly struggled with how to respond but managed to squeak out a humble "thank you."

A little later Jaden came up to me and confided that he was having a really hard time keeping himself from correcting their grammar, "'Cuz, Mom, they keep saying good when they should say well!"

I smiled approvingly, sympathizing completely, and told him he did the right thing in keeping his mouth shut about their grammar. I went on to explain, "Correcting other people's grammar is something that we need to keep within the family."

But boy was I proud!

  1. haha! That sounds like something we would do! My kids and I are always noticing people use good/well incorrectly and it IS really hard not to correct. :)
