Communism for Kids

We've been reading through volume 4 of Story of the World—actually reading two to three chapters a day; we're fast-tracking it through the end of this volume because we're going to be starting TruthQuest history for the next school year. I have absolutely loved SOTW, and so have the kids; we have all learned so much from reading all four volumes.

We read about the Bolshevik Revolution today in SOTW, and since we've had the Animal Farm video for quite a while, and although the kids have watched it on numerous occasions, we thought it'd be a great time to watch it again—only this time with a much better understanding of the allegory. The kids were so excited about watching it again; it'll be interesting to hear what new insights they got from watching it with this new information rolling around in their heads.

I just love homeschooling! Today was definitely a day when I saw understanding dawning on their faces, especially when our discussion of Lenin and Communism moved from October 1917 to the beliefs, philosophies, and goals of some of our current American presidential candidates. Jaden even declared that he can't wait until he's 18 so he can vote!

On this same subject, I'm also excited about getting involved with Generation Joshua next year. I've never been involved much in the political arena, but my kids seem to have quite a bit of interest in it. Generation Joshua, and the free civics courses they offer, may be just what we need to help guide us in our involvement and understanding of civics.

I would love to hear a little more about SOTW. I have made decisions on all of our curriculum with the sole exception of history.

We have been studying US History for 5 years now and I want to expand into World History and Ancient History.

We will continue with US History via studies of the presidents and the states but I am really looking for some World History/ Ancient History feedback!
