Christmastime at the Five J's

Merry Christmas, and welcome to our home!

We usually don't decorate outside for Christmas, but we do have quite a few indoor Christmas decorations, all of which we've collected over the last 14 years of our marriage. One thing that makes this year a little different from others, however, is that our 6-year-old and 9-year-old wanted to do all the decorating themselves, which was perfectly all right with us. The result was a simple but beautiful display of our rather eclectic Christmas collection.

Of course the Christmas tree is our centerpiece. We don't use a real tree, so the girls put up the artificial one on their own, strung the lights and garland, and hung each one of the ornaments. I think it turned out great.

The top of our entertainment center, which is usually the home to dozens of snapshots of the kids, displays everything from nutcrackers, bears, and angels to Santa, trees, and snowmen, all arranged by my daughters' hands.

Our fireplace is decorated with a few more decorations, including a couple sets of three. My extended family often gives us holiday decorations in sets of three — one for each child.

The hearth is where the girls chose to display the nativity scenes, although Santa and Frosty apparently wanted to have a little space there as well.

Finally, the bar separating our kitchen from our living room, which during the rest of the year displays even more snapshots of the kids, has become a mini-village. The houses aren't lighted this year because of a scarcity of available outlets. We usually have "snow" there as well, but we haven't made it into town yet to pick some up; that's on my to-do list this week.

Thanks for taking the time to tour my home today. If you'd like to see more Christmas decorations, make sure you visit BooMama.

And don't forget to join us for our Bloggy Progressive Dinner. The first stop is right here at Five J's!

I love that you let your kids do all the decorating. Mine are still too young (4 and 2.5) and we are having another one any day now, so my house doesn't have much for decorations, just the tree and hubby had to do that. So I am enjoying looking at other peoples' pretties :) Really like your village. Looks like your girls had lots of fun with the tree. Merry Christmas!
