At least one thing that politics is good for

My husband is an avid listener to Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and various other conservative talk show hosts. While I listen along when he's listening to the shows at home, and I almost always agree with the majority of what the hosts say, I am daily becoming increasingly disgusted with politics. But at least I've found that politics does have one good use for us as homeschoolers.

As I've mentioned before, the kids and I are reading The Fallacy Detective together, which covers such "errors in logic" as ad hominen attack, tu quoque, false appeal to authority, red herring, etc. To help the kids understand each error in logic, we like to point out examples when we hear them (or make them!) throughout the day.

Well, with politics as it is currently in our country (and I realize politics has always been this way), there is no shortage of real-life examples of these errors in logic. Finding an example is as simple as flipping on the TV because political candidates provide us with an unending supply of fallacies to study!

If only there were a little more integrity in politics today. Where have all the Washingtons and Lincolns gone?

Amen! I have wondered the same thing the past few months. Where are the men with intergrity, honor and loyalty something other than money and their own sense of power??? I continually look to the east expectantly and with hope.

Thanks for the link to The Fallacy Detective. It looks like something I have been looking for. I can't wait to order it and get started!!
