Karen Joy at Only Sometimes Clever tagged me with a 10/20/30 meme (my first ever) several weeks ago, and I'm finally getting to it! So here goes. This is where I was 10, 20, and 30 years ago:

10 years ago: I was 22 years old, living in Anchorage, Alaska with my husband Jeff, and our first child, 4-month-old Jaden. We had moved to Alaska in 1995, immediately following graduation from college. Jeff was working as the band director for Anchorage Christian Schools, and I was teaching private piano lessons at the school. At the time, Jeff and I were also looking for a way to move back down to the lower 48. We were thankfully able to find a position in South Carolina, where Jeff would be the minister of music and teach Bible in their private school, but we weren't able to move until the end of the school year in 1998.

20 years ago: I was 12 years old, living with my parents in the tiny town of Beavercreek, Oregon. (When I say tiny, I mean tiny! Downtown consisted of a small grocery store, a video rental store, a fire station, and a driving range.) I was in the 7th grade at Moss Jr. High school—and I was known as a "nerd." Not because I wore "geeky" clothes or anything like that, but I was a straight A student. And in jr. high, straight A's = NERD. I was not a very outgoing person, I didn't hang out with the "cool" crowd (really had no desire to, either), but I had a small group of really good friends that I hung out with a lot. I was still taking piano lessons (had been since the age of 5), and I was also playing center (at 5'9" that was the obviously position for me) on our Jr. High basketball team. I wasn't all that good at basketball, but I enjoyed it while it lasted. (And don't you love the bangs in the picture? I probably went through one can of hairspray a week with those!)

30 years ago: I was only two and a half and living in downtown Portland, Oregon. I had two older sisters, age 14 and 15, and one younger sister, age 1. I imagine I was in my "terrible two's" at the time, but of course, I'd have to confirm that with my mother to be sure.
